"If You Had Not Been Put in Vinegar": Children's Authority over Time in Homemade Magazines, 1850–1925
Abstract: Drawing on children's homemade magazines from the period 1850–1925, this essay examines how children explored the temporal element of periodical publishing. In assuming authority over the periodical form, children also asserted authority over time itself. This is demonstrated in editorial commentary and in essays and stories that feature time-slip.
