Enhancement of moisture removal to the helium cryogenic plant for Taiwan photon source

Abstract The helium cryogenic plants at National Synchrotron Radiation Research Center (NSRRC) have faced moisture contamination issues for many years. Over time, these contaminants accumulate in the system, leading to a decline in system performance. Completely removing the trapped moisture during scheduled shutdowns is challenging due to the limited maintenance windows, as maximizing light source availability for experiments remains a priority. This paper proposes a solution to enhance moisture removal by implementing three partial-flow moisture-removal modules at critical points: the liquefier, compressor station, and helium recovery system. Performance evaluation of the module installed at the liquefier demonstrates its effectiveness within the restricted maintenance periods, significantly improving moisture extraction efficiency.
