Flammable vapor sensor based on an optical fiber ferrule coated with a porous cholesteric liquid crystal film
In this study, we propose an all-fiber flammable vapor sensor capable of real-time detection by coating a porous cholesteric liquid crystal film (CLCF) on an optical fiber ferrule. The sensitivities for acetone, toluene, and benzene vapor concentrations were 3.19 pm/ppm, 4.88 pm/ppm, and 6.61 pm/ppm, respectively, and the sensitivity for benzene vapor was the highest. The sensitivities of the porous CLCF and the conventional CLCF device to benzene vapor were compared and analyzed, and the sensitivity of the conventional CLCF device was confirmed to be about -1 pm/ppm, which was about six times lower than that of the porous CLCF.
