DIGITAL ADDICTION IN PRIMARY SCHOOL CHILDREN: PHENOMENOLOGY, RISK FACTORS AND PROPHYLAXIS

This paper presents a theoretical exploration of digital addiction in early‑school‑age children (7–11 years) as a subtype of behavioural addiction. It synthesises current scholarship on the phenomenon – its defining features, warning signs, and developmental harms. The review isolates biological, psychological, social and technological risk factors that predispose younger pupils to problematic digital use. Special attention is given to prevention, where the author argues for a bio‑psycho‑social framework, integrate insights from cognitive‑behavioural theory, and foreground digital‑literacy development as the conceptual pillars of effective programmes. Abstract
