High Performance Metamaterial-Based Antenna Design for Compact 5G Communication Systems

This paper presents the design and analysis of a compact, high-performance metamaterial-based microstrip patch antenna for 5G mm-Wave applications, operating in the 28–30 GHz frequency band. The proposed antenna is designed on a Rogers RT/duroid 5880™ substrate and incorporates Complementary Split-Ring Resonator (CSRR) structures to enhance impedance matching, miniaturization, and radiation performance. The primary objective of this work is to develop an efficient and compact antenna suitable for high-speed 5G communication systems, including small-cell networks, the Internet of Things (IoT), and V2X communication. Simulation results demonstrate a resonant frequency at 29.45 GHz with a return loss of -32.56 dB, a peak gain of 4.6 dB at 28 GHz, and an operational bandwidth of 1.1 GHz (28.85 GHz to 29.98 GHz). The proposed antenna design offers a balance between gain, efficiency, and compactness, making it a viable solution for next-generation wireless communication systems.
