Estudios críticos para la refundación de los sistemas de salud en el Sur global: implicancias de la descolonización de teorías y políticas sanitarias en el siglo XXI

This reflective article reviews and discusses the proposal for critical studies on health systems situated in the Global South, emphasizing the need for the decolonization of theories and policies that remain rooted in Eurocentric and Pan-American epistemes from the Global North. First, it examines the genealogy of these theoretical and methodological frameworks, which were sustained and reproduced throughout the 20th and 21st centuries in a dynamic of subjection to political and health dependence, through the imitation or adaptation of Eurocentric models of social protection and health systems. In response to this theoretical and health policy coloniality, the study seeks to initiate a process of decolonization of health theories and policies in the Global South for the 21st century. This is approached through an update of Latin American critical thought on health systems, the construction of new epistemic starting points, and the development of new categorical frameworks. These elements are crucial in the transition towards a proposal for critical studies aimed at refounding health systems from and for Latin America and the Caribbean.
