De la difusión a la comunicación pública de la ciencia: un diálogo en la Unidad de Cultura Científica y de la Innovación en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid
This article presents an interview with Ana Casado and María Milán, members of the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC+I) at the Complutense University of Madrid, reflecting on the evolution of scientific dissemination toward more inclusive models of public science communication (PSC). Through their experiences, they highlight strategies to bring science closer to diverse audiences, such as the “Science in Residence” program, school outreach, and the use of social media. The importance of PSC as a tool to foster the social appropriation of knowledge, gender equity in science, and citizen participation is emphasized. Structural challenges such as staff shortages and the lack of professional recognition for science journalism are also addressed. Finally, PSC is proposed as an essential component of open science, with the potential to strengthen scientific culture in contexts like Colombia.
