Synthesis and optical transitions of digital inks for ceramic application

Digital inks for application in ceramics represented a great advance since their origin, which allowed them to be implemented industrially in a massive way for the manufacture of ceramic plates. Within this context, this research presents a colorimetric study on the synthesis and application of digital inks on ceramics (tile) and 3 different types of paper, aiming to find out if the inks can be applied to new colors, or as pigments. The blue, black, beige and yellow ink samples were characterized by: x-ray diffraction (XRD) to understand how compositions and phases can influence color, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to evaluate the microstructure, band gap energy and colorimetric analysis through the CIELa*b* system. As a result, the color produced by the inks had good reproducibility and reflectance, demonstrating that these inks can be applied in ceramics, as pigments or new colors.
