Afterword: Clinical Supervision and Case Consultation: Critical Similarities and Differences
ABSTRACT Virtually, all models of psychotherapy practice, including psychology, social work, and counseling, require therapists in training to participate in clinical supervisory sessions in order to complete graduate school and obtain professional licensure. Topics typically covered in supervision include assessment, diagnosis, and treatment techniques. Supervision generally occurs under the guidance of experienced and licensed clinicians. Furthermore, both early-career and highly experienced clinicians are encouraged to participate in ongoing training throughout their careers. In this afterword, key similarities and differences in clinical supervision, case consultation, and peer supervision will be identified and discussed. Relevant legal and ethical issues pertaining to each of these modalities will also be highlighted.
