Sabores perdidos: Una radiografía sobre el desperdicio de alimentos en Bogotá

The article examines the issue of food waste at the Paloquemao market in Bogotá. Despite the goodwill of some merchants, the lack of coordination between sellers, authorities, and food banks prevents actions to reduce waste from having a significant impact. It is highlighted that up to 20% of the monthly organic waste at the market consists of food in good condition, equivalent to 18 tons of wasted fruits and vegetables. This situation is concerning in a city where food insecurity affects more than 1.1 million people. The article also compares the situation at Paloquemao with Corabastos, where there is an effective alliance with the Bogotá Food Bank. It concludes that structured and collaborative strategies are necessary to reduce food waste and improve its redistribution.
