University Students’ Perceptions of the Potential of a Metaverse-Based Virtual Learning Environment: An Exploratory Case Study

This exploratory case study investigates university students’ perceptions of a metaverse-based virtual learning environment (VLE) implemented on the OnCyber platform as a potential learning tool. Using a mixed-methods approach combining quantitative surveys with qualitative thematic analysis, the study identifies key themes: enhanced learning potential, usability and design challenges, collaboration and communication gaps, and the need for justification and refinement. While many students appreciated the immersive, interactive, and self-paced opportunities offered by diverse media, others encountered issues with navigation, content organization, and technical limitations. These findings underscore the strengths and limitations of metaverse-based education and highlight areas for future refinement.
