Effect of heat treatment on mechanical and wear properties of aluminum tin (Pb free) bearing material
Abstract. Aluminum tin is a lead-free bearing material and is widely used in automobile industries because of its anti-frictional, self-lubricating property. The present study focused on assessing the mechanical and wear properties of custom-made binary Al¬15Sn subjected to heat treatment at 250°C for 1 hour and then cooled in different mediums (furnace, air, and oil). Air-cooled samples showed slightly higher hardness properties, 40% more impact energy, and reduced weight loss (0.2 gms) than furnace (0.32 gms) and oil-cooled (0.52 gms) samples.
