Tribological Properties and Corrosion Resistance of AlCrFeNi3.1Mo<i>x</i> Eutectic High‐Entropy Alloy Coatings via Laser Cladding

Eutectic high‐entropy alloys (HEAs) exhibit excellent mechanical properties due to their lamellar structure characterized by alternating soft and hard phases. To address the critical demands for aerospace and precision manufacturing equipment, microalloying strategy has been employed to further improve wear resistance and corrosion resistance. Herein, AlCrFeNi 3.1 Mo x ( x = 0, 0.06, 0.12, 0.18, 0.24, and 0.3) HEA coatings are fabricated on ASTM A36 substrates via laser cladding. The microstructure, tribological properties, and corrosion resistance of the AlCrFeNi 3.1 Mo x HEAs are investigated. The results show that the AlCrFeNi 3.1 Mo x alloy coating consists of face‐centered‐cubic and body‐centered‐cubic phases. The rapid cooling effect of the laser cladding technology effectively inhibits the precipitation of the σ phase in the coating. As the Mo content continues to increase, both the hardness and wear resistance of the coatings exhibit notable improvements, increasing by 6.8% and 42.86%, respectively. The AlCrFeNi 3.1 Mo 0.3 alloy demonstrates the most favorable hardness and tribological properties, achieving optimal performance in these regards. The corrosion resistance of the alloy coating initially improves with increasing Mo content and then deteriorates, with the AlCrFeNi 3.1 Mo 0.24 alloy showing optimal corrosion resistance. Adding an appropriate amount of Mo to the AlCrFeNi 3.1 can effectively enhance the tribological and corrosion resistance.
