A Brief Discussion on the Connection Between Secondary School Mathematics and University Mathematics from a Higher Perspective: Taking Probability Theory as an Example
Against the backdrop of ongoing educational reforms, strengthening the connection between secondary school mathematics and higher mathematics has become a key task in improving the quality of mathematics education and cultivating students comprehensive competence. Focusing on probability theory, this paper explores in depth the relationship between secondary and higher mathematics. By elaborating on the requirements of educational reform for coherence in mathematics education, it clarifies the research background and significance. The paper analyzes the current state of probability theory teaching in secondary schools, revealing issues such as limited content and traditional teaching methods, which hinder students deep understanding of probabilistic thinking and expansion of their cognitive horizons. Based on Piagets cognitive development theory, the constructivist view of learning, and Vygotskys theory of the zone of proximal development, the theoretical feasibility of integrating probability theory concepts from higher mathematics into secondary school mathematics teaching is demonstrated. Accordingly, strategies for integration are proposed, focusing on expanding teaching content, innovating teaching methods, and strengthening teacher training, with a designed teaching case study on Probability Problems in Disease Testing. Research findings show that incorporating probability theory concepts from higher mathematics can effectively stimulate students interest in learning, enhance their mathematical literacy and practical problem-solving abilities, and provide strong support for building a coherent and efficient mathematics education system. This study offers important reference value for advancing mathematics education reform.
