TO STUDY OUTCOMES OF ENDOSCOPIC VS MICROSCOPIC TYPE 1 TYMPANOPLASTY WITH CENTRAL PERFORATION IN TYMPANIC MEMBRANE WITH CONDUCTIVE HEARING LOSS.

Background & Methods:The aim of the study is to study outcomes of endoscopic vs microscopic type 1 tympanoplasty with central perforation in tympanic membrane. Endoscopic assisted or microscopic assisted type 1 tympanoplasty was performed using temporalis fascia graft. Results: Granulation was present in 11% of patients in endoscopic assisted group and 17% in microscopic assisted group. There was signicant difference observed, compared between both the groups (p=0.0498). Conclusion: Both microscopic and endoscopic tympanoplasties have their own advantages and disadvantages, Endoscopic Tympanoplasty offers slight benets over Microscopic Tympanoplasty in terms of shorter duration, lesser pain, it has inherent disadvantages being a single handed procedure where it would become difcult if there is bleeding as even small amount of blood can obscure the view and also, it would be difcult to operate with single hand and achieve haemostasis during surgery. The incidence of granulation tissue was more among the microscopic Tympanoplasty group, statistical signicance. Study Design:randomized control trial.
