Kast Optical Spectra of Unclassified Stars Within 20 pc of the Sun
Abstract M- and L-type dwarfs are abundant in the Milky Way, yet many of these nearest sources remain poorly characterized. We present optical spectra for 67 low-luminosity sources within 20 pc of the Sun, 41 of which are optically classified for the first time. We determine spectral classifications spanning M3–L3, and report indicators of metallicity and magnetic activity. We identify two sources with discrepant classifications in the literature, and report a likely binary system LP 546-37.
