A Compact L-Band Relativistic Magnetron With All-Cavity Radial Output
A compact L-band relativistic magnetron (RM) with all-cavity radial output (ACRO) is proposed and investigated numerically. N</i>/2 rectangular waveguides are arranged equiangularly along the radial direction and connected to N</i>/2 axial sector waveguides of RM with all-cavity extraction (ACE) by using waveguide coupling slots. In an N</i>-cavity ACE-RM operating in <inline-formula xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"> <tex-math notation="LaTeX">$\pi $</tex-math> </inline-formula>-mode, fundamental mode (TE10) will be excited in each rectangular waveguide and transmitted outward along the radial direction. High-frequency analysis demonstrates that this output structure excites fundamental rectangular RF modes efficiently without affecting the symmetry of the interaction region and reduces the distance between the sector waveguide short-circuit surface and the center of the magnetron coupling slot. This brings a more compact magnetic field-producing system, which reduces the whole volume and weight of the tube remarkably. The results of particle-in-cell simulation show that a microwave output of 2.02 GW with a power conversion efficiency of 57.7% and a frequency of 1.564 GHz can be achieved with a magnetic field of 0.36 T and a voltage of 630 kV.
