Efficient Computation of Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamic Properties on Regular Grids

Abstract I describe an algorithm for the efficient computation of field properties traced by Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) particles on regular grids. The proposed approach consistently samples the SPH kernel across a range of smoothing lengths while achieving constant numerical complexity, regardless of the number of grid cells sampling the volume. The complexity depends only on the number of SPH particles and the number of grid cells that sample the kernel. Applications of this method range from efficiently generating high-resolution images to interpolating SPH data onto volumetric grids.
