Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis following coronavirus disease 2019 infection: a case report
Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is an autoimmune demyelinating disease of the central nervous system and is commonly triggered by viral infections. Since the beginning of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, ADEM associated with COVID-19 has also been reported. Herein, we describe a 60-year-old female who presented with acute encephalopathy and lower limb weakness 10 days after COVID-19 infection. The patient showed reversible multifocal white matter lesions in brain magnetic resonance imaging, suggesting ADEM, and fully recovered after immune therapy.
