Staphylococcus aureus detection based on tapered MCF
A new tapered multicore fiber (MCF) biosensor is proposed and implemented for <i>Staphylococcus aureus</i> detection based on analyte/aptamer specific binding assay. The tapered MCF was functionalized with a specific aptamer for selective detection. In experiments, the selectivity was tested by comparing <i>S. aureus</i> and <i>S. epidermidis</i> detection using tapered MCF, and the sensitivity was evaluated by detecting different concentrations of <i>S. aureus</i> at 105, 106, and 107 CFU/mL. The results represent the tapered MCF's successful application as a fiber optic biosensor.
