An approach to low-curvature 2D shape sensing using an indoor optical cable
This study evaluates the applicability of an indoor optical cable for shape sensing under low-curvature conditions. A two-dimensional reconstruction algorithm was applied to predict shapes with curvature radii of 3 m, 6 m, and 10 m, achieving reasonable accuracy. We show that increasing the core-to-core spacing amplify the bending strain. While the cable may exhibit nonlinear deformation compared to conventional multi-core fibers, the results demonstrate its potential for practical applications in low-curvature environments, such as underground duct monitoring.
