Effects of Excess Refrigerant Load on the COP of a Typical Air Conditioning System in the Tropics
For both home and commercial applications, air conditioner (AC) is given priority in design. When an AC system is fully charged with a predetermined amount of refrigerant, it functions at its best. Low charge results from refrigerant leaks and poor field maintenance, which lowers thermal performance and raises running costs. For best operation and cost savings, it is necessary to comprehend the air-conditioner's performance if it is not correctly charged. The impact of additional refrigerant load on the COP of a typical tropical AC system was investigated experimentally. The utilization of a used small-capacity window air conditioner with R-22 refrigerant is the main subject of this investigation. The data make it very evident that 100% is the ideal refrigerant charge. 3,500 J/s and 3.80 COP were the maximum cooling capacity and COP, respectively. Additionally, a high refrigerant load causes the air-conditioner's performance to decline.
