The impact of Brexit on international logistics: challenges and opportunities for businesses
Brexit has generated profound structural changes in international logistics, particularly within the UK–EU supply chain corridor. The end of the UK's participation in the EU single market and customs union introduced new regulatory, operational, and administrative barriers that have significantly disrupted cross-border trade. Drawing on recent academic studies and institutional reports, this paper analyzes the main logistical challenges brought about by Brexit, such as customs delays, driver shortages, and rising transportation costs. It also explores how firms are adapting through technological innovation, supply chain decentralization, and the pursuit of trade opportunities beyond the European bloc. The findings suggest that while Brexit presents long-term risks, it also acts as a catalyst for resilience and strategic transformation in global logistics.
