Air Quality Monitoring System Using Arduino
Air quality deterioration is becoming a growing concern, impacting public health daily. Individuals residing in polluted environments face various health risks, making it essential for everyone to stay informed about the air quality in their surroundings. This paper presents a novel real-time air quality monitoring technique based on Arduino Uno technology. The system integrates multiple sensors, including the MQ135gas sensor, BMP180 atmospheric pressure sensors, and DHT11 humidity sensors to provide comprehensive environmental data. The system measures air pollution in parts per million(PPM) and displays live readings on an LCD screen while simultaneously transmitting data to a mobile device through a Bluetooth serial interface for remote monitoring. When pollutant levels exceed a predetermined threshold, a relay module activates an exhaust fan to improve air circulation and maintain a healthier environment. The MQ135 detects harmful greenhouses such as ammonia(NH<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">3</inf>), nitrogen oxides(NO<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">X</inf>), carbon monoxide(CO), and carbon dioxide (CO<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf>), with an accuracy of ±5%. Additionally, the BMP180 sensor measures atmospheric pressure and temperature, while the DHT11 sensor records humidity, enhancing the system's overall precision. This study evaluates air quality in two distinct environments: (i) indoor and ii) outdoor settings. With its energy-efficient and cost-effective design, the proposed solution is ideal for monitoring air quality in residential and proportional spaces. By promoting better air quality management this system contributes to improved environmental conditions and raises public awareness of air pollution and its health impacts.
