Quest of diffuseness strength in the charge spectrum of 170 ≤ Z1Z2 < 1500

Abstract In this work, the effect of nuclear surface diffuseness is investigated on the deformed-deformed projectile-target combinations spread over the wide charge spectrum of 170 ≤ Z 1 Z 2 < 1500. The effect of nuclear shape is examined by considering colliding nuclei to be prolate-prolate, oblate-prolate/prolate-oblate and oblate-oblate deformed. The sensitivity of diffuseness parameter (b 0 ) is analyzed in reference to nuclear potential depth, fusion barrier height and fusion excitation functions etc. Independent of the masses and shapes of the colliding partners, a constant difference in the magnitude of fusion pocket depth V 0 is observed with change in the diffuseness parameter from lower to higher strength. The fusion excitation functions available at energies across the fusion barriers have been addressed by using the Extended-Wong model. It is found that diffuseness value ∼1 fm is good for above barrier fusion cross-sections of the reactions having Z 1 Z 2 < 500. However, for the heavier nuclei (Z 1 Z 2 > 500), higher diffuseness value (>1fm) seems optimum. This result is independent of the shapes of interacting nuclei. Along with this, a systematic study has been performed to investigate the thermal behavior of surface energy coefficient γ on the reactions under consideration.
