Schätze der Eiszeit bewahren
Preserving the treasures of the Ice Age // A special landscape phenomenon of the end moraine landscape of the pre-Alps are so-called dead ice kettles. They host numerous species of high and transitional moors that are significant for nature conservation, but due to their morphological characteristics, they are particularly threatened by climate change and eutrophication. As part of the BayernNetzNatur project “Treasures of the Ice Age Landscape”, 134 stepping stones covering a total of 103 hectares in the habitat network were restored in the districts of Mühldorf am Inn and Rosenheim. A key factor for success was the close coordination between project management, biodiversity consulting, and the landscape management associations.
