The Extent of Braille Educational System Use among the Blind in the Era of Artificial Intelligence Technologies

Braille is considered one of the most important educational tools enabling blind individuals to read and write, playing a central role in education and communication. With the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, new tools and methods have emerged to support blind individuals and facilitate their daily lives. The study aimed to evaluate the extent of Braille usage in education among blind individuals and to examine the impact of AI technologies on the use of Braille. A descriptive-analytical approach was employed, with a questionnaire administered to 100 blind individuals aged 12 and above from various segments of Jordanian society, both genders. Additionally, a review of literature related to AI technologies and the Braille educational system was conducted. The study results indicated that Braille continues to be widely used in education, particularly among children and adolescents. AI technologies are used as a complementary tool to Braille, providing interactive means such as auditory applications and tactile screens. There is a positive impact of modern technologies on education, but they have not entirely replaced Braille; rather, they have contributed to enhancing the educational experience for the blind. Thus, Braille remains a fundamental tool in education despite the prevalence of AI technologies. While these technologies offer valuable alternatives, they have not eliminated the need for Braille but have helped improve and expand educational opportunities for the blind. It is crucial to continue integrating Braille with modern technologies to ensure inclusive and sustainable education for the blind. Based on the results, the researcher recommends enhancing the integration of Braille with AI technologies in educational curricula, providing training programs for the blind and educators on using modern technology, and conducting additional studies to measure the impact of technology on reading and writing skills among the blind. Keywords: Extent, Braille educational system, blind individuals, Artificial Intelligence Technologies.
