PILOT STUDY FOR THE EVALUATION OF THE LEARNING OF A GAMIFIED ACTIVITY FOR COMPETITIVE TEAMS OF QUESTIONS-AND-ANSWERS IN ARTERIAL HYPERTENSION

Objective: To evaluate the usefulness in learning the hypertension approach through a question-and-answer type game where the group’s knowledge determines the competition. Design and method: A trivia is an analog game of questions and answers. We developed a new game where participating teams must demonstrate their knowledge by giving agreed answers to questions where they score to obtain badges for each of the knowledge areas. To evaluate the activity, we designed a form with statements that could be rated as true, false or unknown. The participants in the activity were asked to respond at the beginning of the game and at the end via an online form and their results were compared between the initial and final. Results: 48 results were obtained from a single session with 50 participants. 30 results were prior to the session and 18 after. All the attending professionals were medical doctors, 15 of them residents. The median of the previous scores was 13 (minimum 8, maximum 16) and of the subsequent ones 13.5 (10 and 16 respectively). Conclusions: Currently there are new tools in training: gamification or game-based learning is one of the most innovative. It promotes commitment and cooperation between professionals in a positive and safe experimental environment for the patient. Our game seems to be able to provide a slight positive difference in learning, although the validity of these results is poor due to the high number of losses and the impossibility that we experienced of matching the data. A study with a larger sample size, better data matching and optimization in the loss process will be necessary.
