HYPERTENSION SCREENING APPROACH FOR WOMEN FROM A DISADVANTAGED COMMUNITY IN FRANCE: ORGANIZATION OF CARE PATHWAYS AROUND VOLUNTEERING

Objective: Cardiovascular (CV) disease in women remains a growing burden of morbidity and mortality. Despite growing public health awareness of the problem, CV screening and prevention initiatives remain marginal, particularly among vulnerable populations. The Agir pour le coeur des femmes Foundation remains a pioneer in this field in France with “Women’s Heart Bus” (WHB) who targeting vulnerable women’s far from heathcare system. Screening carried out by Territorial Professional Health Communities (TPHC), close link with hospitals and scientific societies is also useful in marginal areas based on voluntary work. The aim of this study is to share some data from WHB and TPHC with comparative data over 2 years in Seine-Saint-Denis (marginal department in France). Design and method: Retrospective analysis from 2022-2023 of women’s data from voluntary WHB screening recruited by local health institutions and associations, and from Bobigny-Bondy TPHC according to May Measurement Month (MMM) kit from French Society of Hypertension. This is a cross-sectional, observational study. Results: Over 2 years, 939 women took part in screening campaigns. The main results are summarized in the table. In percentage, there was a greater tendency for WHB participants were more smokers and overweight. While MMM participants had more hypertension and diabetes. SBP and DBP averages remained similar in both groups. Conclusions: While statistical analysis of our cohort data (currently underway) will enable us to identify the particularities of thus sample of French women, any hypertension and CV risk screening campaign is worthwhile. The gaps in the screening initiatives published in Europe by MMM (Beaney T et al. Hypertension 2020;76:333-341) raises 2 needs from our point of view: helping vulnerable population with difficult access to care and the growing need for volunteers may become a limiting factor in the long-term viability of these initiatives. A global reflection of all partners is essential. Thanks to all the healthcare professionals for their commitment to hypertension screening campaigns.
