A NEW QUESTIONS-AND-ANSWERS GAME IN HYPERTENSION FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION AMONG HEALTH PROFESSIONALS

Objective: To create a question-and-answers game for continuing education in Hypertension for health professionals. Design and method: We designed an analog game of questions-and-answers (like a “trivia”). We distributed our game in 6 knowledge areas related to hypertension (screening, diagnosis and measure of blood pressure; initial assessment and follow-up; secondary hypertension; treatment; of hypertensive urgencies and resistant hypertension; especial situations). There were 25 short questions with 3 possibles answers on each topic. The participants chose the knowledge area falling into colour squares by rolling a dice. Some of the squares had bonuses. They played with teams and after discussing the answer for a maximum of one minute they have to give an answer. 6 teams in each game for one hour, one unique question opportunity for team each round. The winning team will be the one with the most correct bonus answers, and in case of a tie, the teams with more correct answers. Results: We have done 3 sessions in 2 national congresses with 110 participants in total, the qualitative evaluation was positive. The game is now registered in an open to share license. Most of the participants agreed the one-hour game is too short. Conclusions: Game-based learning is one of the most innovative in continuing education. Teams promote commitment and cooperation in a positive and safe experimental environment for the patient. The games are well valued, and we are being asked for longer experiences in the next national congress of the national society of family medicine. A study for quantitative evaluation of satisfaction and learning is also needed. Also, it would be useful one study comparing those variables with a more classic activity.
