MASKED ARTERIAL HYPERTENSION IN PATIENTS LIVING WITH TYPE 2 DIABETIS MELLITUS IN A CITY OF SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA: PREVALENCE, ASSOCIATED FACTORS AND CARDIAC IMPACT
Objective: To determine the prevalence, the associated factors and to evaluate the cardiac impact of MH in patients with T2DM. Design and method: In a prospective case-control study including normotensive patients with T2DM with a screenning of MH by ABPM and LVH by cardiac ultrasound. Results: We included 258 patients with T2DM (57.4% women). The median age was 50 years. The median duration of diabetes was 2 years. The prevalence of MH was 36.8%. LVH was present in 45.2%. The associated factors of MH were diabetes for at least 10 years, poor glycaemic control and hyperuricaemia. LVH was positively associated with MH. Conclusions: MH should be investigated in patients living with T2DM and is association with LVH.
