Tekenencefalitis: preventie vóór de beet
Tick-borne encephalitis: prevention before the bite Tick-borne encephalitis is a viral infection transmitted through tick bites. Its incidence is increasing in various parts of Europe. The initial clinical presentation can be mild. Headache and fever following travel to an endemic area are warning signs and should prompt immediate referral to the emergency department. Without timely recognition, severe neurological complications may develop, necessitating intensive care. Fortunately, there is an effective and safe vaccine available to prevent these complications. Even for European travelers, it is advisable to consult their general practitioner to determine if vaccination is necessary.
