CORRELATION OF LPA LEVELS WITH PROTHROMBOTIC FACTORS

Objective: The association of Lpa levels with thrombosis has been reported and hence its importance in the cardiovascular outcome of the population. The aim of the study was to determine any relationship between blood Lp(a) levels and prothrombotoc factors in the general population as also in specific subgroups Design and method: 1116 patients were studied: hypertensive patients, men and women (54% women), under antihypertensive treatment (56%), newly diagnosed without medication, healthy, mean age (MA) 56.7±13.9 years, without any apparent cardiac disease at study entry, mean clinic systolic/diastolic pressure (MS/DBP) 143.9±21.4/89.6±13.3 mmHg, mean clinic heart rate (HR): 75.5±10.9 bpm, mean body mass index (BMI) 27.9±4.9 kg/m2 and mean waist circumference (WCP) 96.1±12.9 cm. The levels of Lp(a), fibrinogen and d-dimers were measured and correlated with each other by Pearson analysis. Results: Table 1: Pearson correlation of Lp(a) levels with fibrinogen and d-dimers blood levels Lp(a) Fibrinogen r=0.88 p=0.011 d-dimers r=0.146 p=0.05 Conclusions: Lp(a) levels are significantly and positively associated with fibrinogen and d-dimer levels in a population sample, indicating the importance of Lp(a) levels in the prothrombotic state of this population.
