ENHANCED RECOVERY AFTER NEUROSURGERY (ERAS): APPLICABILITY AND OUTCOMES
Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols have revolutionized perioperative care across multiple surgical disciplines. This review examines the growing implementation of ERAS principles within neurosurgery, evaluating their applicability and clinical outcomes. Evidence demonstrates that neurosurgical ERAS pathways, when properly adapted to neurosurgical-specic considerations, can signicantly reduce length of hospital stay, decrease complication rates, improve patient satisfaction, and potentially reduce healthcare costs without increasing readmission rates. While challenges remain in standardization and implementation, the promising outcomes from early adopters suggest that ERAS represents a valuable paradigm shift in neurosurgical care. This review synthesizes current evidence on neurosurgical ERAS protocols, highlighting key components, clinical benets, limitations, and future directions for research and practice
