IMMEDIATE RESULTS OF THE INTERVENTIONS ON THE TRUNK OF THE LEFT CORONARY ARTERY
Abstract. Left main coronary artery (LMCA) lesions, found in 4.8–9% of patients undergoing coronary angiography, represent a serious clinical problem requiring an aggressive revascularization approach. Despite growing evidence of the effectiveness and safety of percutaneous interventions on LMCA, coronary artery bypass grafting remains the dominant revascularization method in many clinics. Material and Methods. The authors presented the immediate results of LMCA coronary interventions in 117 consecutive patients at a single center. Results: LMCA interventions accounted for 6.44% of the total number of percutaneous coronary interventions. 79.5% of the interventions were performed using radial access, two-stent strategies were used in 11.1%, mechanical circulatory support in 17.1%, and intracoronary imaging in 6.8% of cases. In-hospital mortality was 10.3%, and the number of complications was 6.8%. No significant difference in access, technical aspects of the procedure, was found between elective patients and patients with acute coronary syndrome. Conclusions: LMCA stenting can be performed routinely in clinics with sufficient experience in coronary interventions, with acceptable immediate results. Additional efforts by clinic administrations and professional associations are needed to more widely implement coronary imaging to improve the long-term results of LMCA interventions.
