Ultra-high stability chip-scale optical gyroscope
Broadband source-driven resonant optical gyroscopes (ROGs) based on whispering gallery mode (WGM) microcavities offer an exceptionally stable solution for practical applications of chip-scale gyroscopes. In this paper, we report a ROG employing a 28.5-mm WGM microcavity as the core sensitive element, achieving long-term stability as low as 0.5°/h over a 10-hour test period through optimizing the polarization alignment angle. Furthermore, the gyroscope demonstrates a scale factor nonlinearity of better than 100 ppm over a rotational range of ±500°/s. To the best of our knowledge, this represents the highest performance level ever reported for a chip-scale optical gyroscope.
