Evaluation of fracture resistance of three types of post utilized in restoration of root canal treated primary anterior teeth (an in-vitro study)
Abstract Objectives The present study was aimed to evaluate the fracture resistance and fracture mode of three types of post for restoring of root canal treated primary anterior teeth. Materials and methods This study was carried out on 45 extracted primary maxillary anterior teeth with at least 2/3 intact root. They were randomly divided into three groups to be restored with conventional composite resin post and core, prefabricated glass fiber post with conventional composite core and EverStick post with conventional composite core. The samples were polished and placed in an acrylic block with almost 1 mm of the root cervical part remaining out, thermocycled (×5000) and tested for fracture resistance. Kolmogorov–Smirnov test, Levene test and one-way analysis of variance test were used for statistical analyses (α < 0.05). χ 2 was used for statistical comparison of fracture mode among the three studied groups. Results The fracture resistance was significantly different among the three groups. It was the highest in EverStick post group (418.64 N), followed by prefabricated glass fiber post group (403.63 N) and the lowest in composite resin post group (280.65 N). There was no statistically significant difference in the mode of fracture among the three studied groups fracture state. Conclusion Since the anterior teeth restored with EverStick post were the most fracture resistant, so it can be promisingly used for the restoration of anterior primary teeth.
