Core-shell structured Sm2Fe17N3 magnetic particles prepared by combining HDDR and reduction diffusion process

A novel approach is proposed wherein the hydrogenation-disproportionation-desorption-recombination (HDDR) Sm2Fe17 particles containing α-Fe were used as the starting material and reacted with Sm fabricated by Sm2O3 reduction through diffusion to form new Sm2Fe17 particles with core (HDDR grain) and shell (reduction diffusion grain) structural characteristics. Further research reveals that by optimizing the nitridation and ball-milling processes of the reduction diffusion (RD)-treated HDDR Sm2Fe17 magnetic particles, it is possible to produce Sm2Fe17N3 magnetic particles with a maximum energy product [(BH)max] exceeding 20 MGOe, surpassing the (BH)max of the currently reported HDDR isotropic Sm2Fe17N3 magnetic particles. The corresponding studies on microstructure and magnetism indicate that the differences in magnetic performance between the RD treated HDDR Sm2Fe17N3 and the conventional HDDR isotropic Sm2Fe17N3 magnetic particles are attributed to variations in their microstructure and phase composition.
