Impact of Social Media on Adolescents
Abstract Adolescence, typically defined as the period between 15 and 24 years of age, is a critical developmental phase marked by significant physical, emotional, and cognitive changes. The blue light emitted from screens, particularly during evening hours, disrupts the production of melatonin, a hormone responsible for regulating sleep cycles. The relationship between social media usage and academic performance is multifaceted. While social media can be a valuable tool for communication and collaboration among students, its excessive use is often linked to poorer academic outcomes. To mitigate these effects, promoting balanced usage, self-regulation, and mindfulness is essential. Future research should further explore underlying mechanisms and intervention strategies to foster healthy digital behaviors.
