A System to Detect Unconscious Bias Using Virtual Patients - System Architecture

The implementation of unconscious bias training within the workplace promotes diversity, safety, and respect by aiding individuals in recognizing, managing, and mitigating their biases. Simulation-based training, which effectively mirrors real-world situations, has gained popularity among healthcare professionals. This training approach enables patients to make errors, engage in learning, reflect on their experiences, receive constructive feedback, and enhance their clinical competencies while prioritizing patient safety. However, immersive technology simulations are not without their challenges, including latency issues and difficulties with spatial awareness. This study provides an overview of the system domain and includes a traceability diagram outlining the logical and physical architecture. This paper is the fourth installment in a series dedicated to the development of a virtual patient system designed to evoke unconscious bias in medical students.
