Electrically Small Flared Half-Loop Shaped Antenna for NB-IoT

The design has been analyzed using spherical wave expansion (SWE) and has been compared with the excited modes of well-known reference antenna designs.

Abstract

An electrically small, cuboid shaped antenna has been designed and simulated in this paper. The design with an electrical size <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$ka$</tex> of 0.24 and a maximum size of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\lambda/13$</tex> achieves an overall radiation efficiency of 38%, a directivity of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$5.83 dBi$</tex>, and a quality factor of 3.2 times the Chu limit. The design has been analyzed using spherical wave expansion (SWE) and has been compared with the excited modes of well-known reference antenna designs.
