A Transceiver IC Development for Wired Data Communication Using Mode Division Multiplex Transmission Method
This paper describes a basic concept of the Mode-Division-Multiplex-Transmission (MDMT) method for high-speed digital data transmission through shielded multi-wire cable and reports a transceiver of semiconductor Integrated Circuit (IC) for the MDMT method. The MDMT method achieves significant crosstalk reduction between wires by assigning eigenmodes to the wires in the cable. To implement the mode assignment, the transceiver IC can apply a multi-level current onto the cable to generate a four-level voltage of output data. In the actual measurement of the data transmission using the IC, proper eye openings have been observed on the transmitter (TX) side.
