Frequency-Independent and High Gain Comb Antenna for Radar Applications

In this work, we propose a frequencyindependent and high gain comb antenna for radar applications. This antenna exhibits a highly directive radiation pattern that remains consistent over a wide frequency range while also providing a broad impedance bandwidth. Three techniques contribute to pattern consistency and high gain in this antenna design. First, the stepped feeding line (SFL) enables frequencyindependent directive radiation properties. Second, high gain is achieved through the use of Y-shaped elements (YEs) instead of conventional comb monopoles, along with the incorporation of parasitic elements (PEs). The operating frequency of the proposed antenna ranges from 76 to 81 GHz, achieving a broadside realized gain of 13.4 to 15.6 dBi, with a copper surface roughness of 1 um.
