Foreign and domestic experience of using miscellaneous herbs in urboecosystems

The foreign and domestic experience of using ornamental grasses in lawns and urban landscape design has been analyzed. The research aimed to analyze the experience of utilizing ornamental grasses in urban ecosystems in Ukraine. Examples of ornamental grass application in flowerbeds and decorative plantings in urban ecosystems of Lviv and Bila Tserkva are provided. The taxonomic composition has been analyzed on a sample site in Bila Tserkva, where a lawn has been replaced with ornamental grasses. It was determined that the vegetative cover consists of 14 species, with 10% belonging to the Poaceae family. The layer of each species, flowering period, and decorative terms have been established. The conclusion has been drawn that ornamental grasses consume less water, trap harmful dust and smog, reduce air temperature in summer, and contribute to biodiversity conservation. Areas with ornamental grasses require systematic maintenance as stronger species gradually displace weaker ones, leading to reduced diversity and increased fire risk.
