Green Discoloration of Urine: A Case Report
Urine discoloration is a common occurrence in hospital settings and often raises concerns, requiring careful investigation to distinguish between benign and pathological causes. The authors describe the case of a 48-year-old male who developed green-colored urine postoperatively, likely as a result of receiving intravenous propofol for general anesthesia. The green color is believed to be caused by a phenolic metabolite of propofol, produced in the liver and excreted through the urine.Although this discoloration is harmless and self-limiting, it can still be alarming for the treating doctor. This case highlights a rare benign side effect of propofol.
