THE ROLE OF INDIGENOUS VARIETIES AND GASTRONOMIC PRODUCTS IN SUSTAINABLE TOURISM
Indigenous varieties and gastronomic products play a key role in sustainable tourism. The integration of indigenous varieties and products derived from them into tourism can create unique experiences for visitors while supporting and promoting sustainable development. This research focuses on analyzing the positive impacts of preserving, promoting, and favoring indigenous varieties on sustainable tourism. The areas covered in the study include: preserving local heritage through passing on traditions and knowledge about plants and animals that are genetically adapted to the specific conditions of the local area; supporting local producers by including their products in the tourism offer in restaurants and food stores; educating tourists through vineyard and similar tours; promoting healthy food and quality without the use of treatment agents; food tourism through the promotion of national cuisine and emphasizing gastronomic experiences; the development of green tourism, including staying in ecological accommodations, using ecological products, and participating in activities that do not harm the natural environment. The study also addresses the disappearance of certain indigenous varieties and the possibility of reintroducing the cultivation of lost and endangered varieties. Examples include grape varieties and grape products, fruit and vegetables, breeds of livestock, and milk and meat products, as well as local gastronomic specialties derived from indigenous varieties. The main idea of the study is to use indigenous varieties and gastronomic products in sustainable tourism not only as a tool for environmental and cultural heritage preservation but also to provide tourists with an authentic and unforgettable experience.
