A COMPARISON OF SNODGRASS & SNODGRAFT SURGICAL PROCEDURES FOR TREATING CHILDHOOD HYPOSPADIAS
A Comparison Of Snodgrass And Snodgraft Surgical Procedures for Treating Childhood Hypospadias ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the frequency of fistulas between Snodgrass and Snodgraft in a subset of patients having hypospadias repaired. Methodology: Design of the Study is a Randomized Controlled Trial Setting: Plastic Surgery Department, Northwest General Hospital and Research Centre, Peshawar. Duration: 6 months Method of Sampling: (Consecutive sampling) Nonprobability Data Collection and Analysis: All of the hypospadias patients were enrolled in the outpatient department following IREB approval and patient consent. Cases were randomized into the following groups: the Snodgrass group and the Snodgraft group. The Incidence of postoperative fistula formation rate between the two groups was compared. RESULTS: In Snodgrass (Control group),20 (17.40%) patients have developed postoperative fistula whereas 95 (82.60%) patients did not develop the fistula. Similarly, in Snodgraft (Interventional group), 06 (5.021%) patients had the presence of a fistula whereas in 109 (94.79%) patients there was no fistula formation. As per safety was concerned, in Snodgrass, the safety of the procedure was recorded in 95 (82.60%) patients whereas in Snodgraft, the safety of the procedure was recorded in 109 (94.79%) patients. CONCLUSION: Our study concluded a significantly improved success rate in Snod-graft repair as compared to Snodgrass repair. KEYWORDS: Hypospadias, Urethrocutaneous Fistula, Snodgrass repair, Snodgraft repair, TIPS with dorsal inlay graft.
