Use of Water Injector as Gas Shield for Reservoir Management

Summary Al-Shaheen Field is a giant complex offshore field located in the State of Qatar. It is composed of multiple stacked reservoirs produced through the same surface facilities. Numerous challenges present while operating the field especially with the surface water and gas handling constraints. This paper addresses gas handling in an innovative approach by successfully implementing a subsurface gas shield in 2 reservoirs producing from oil columns below gas cap. This concept has drastically reduced the gas production on surface and also resulted in better sweep efficiency of the oil towards producers.
