Reduced-Order Modeling Framework for Water Injection Optimization and Efficient Reservoir Management
Summary Water injection is the reservoir pressure maintenance and sweep efficiency strategy implemented in Dan and Halfdan fields. Maintaining sustained levels of water injection to maximize production in a matured field environment can be challenging at times. A reduced order model is presented to optimize water injection distribution across fields. The methodology is built on integrating data from multiple sources at a well pattern level. Each pattern can have a very specific communication and degree of interaction between wells i.e. allocation factor depending on the local variations in the area e.g. any direct fracture connections between wells, conformance issues etc. These heterogeneities at a pattern level are captured in the full field black-oil simulation models. To retain this complexity, streamline simulations were run on full field models, allowing capture of the communication between wells in a robust manner as input to the Reduced Order Model (ROM). This approach has been particularly useful in prioritizing allocation of water injection during instances of low availability in a mature field environment where fast turnaround times in operations are essential.
