Thermal Induced Fractures in Moho : Field Management & well Analysis
Summary Thermal Induced Fractures (TIFs) were predicted and observed on Moho, a field offshore Congo targeting Albian Carbonates reservoirs. Some wells experience fracturing at bottom hole injection pressure (BHIP) values lower than the original minimum stress. TIF has been monitored, and its early detection has allowed implementation of corrective measures on time, controlling the propagation of TIF. The well-by-well monitoring strategy is essential to follow-up of the injectors’ performance and scrutiny of any sudden drop in pressure or increase in rates that may indicate a TIF. This approach helps update data acquisition plans and operating guidelines accordingly. Not all wells show signs of TIF, and in those where TIF has been interpreted, the fractures seem to be local, affecting only the near wellbore area. This observation is fully consistent with the reservoir model, its history match in terms of injectivities, water cut and 4D response.
